Board of elders certification in evangelism
The Board of Elders took an eight week course on evangelism, culminating in their certification on July 14th. Rev. Juan Zamora, and Noemi Guerra came to help with their certification during the worship service. Rev. Zamora also preached on evangelism.
2024 VBS
This year the theme was Camp Firelight. At Camp Firelight, the children enjoyed an interactive, energizing, Bible-based good time on their summer camp adventure with God. They became Campers and discovered how to put their trust in God in every situation.
2024 graduates
In 2024 we had 5 graduating seniors, 4 from high school and 1 from college. Kiki Cox, who graduates from New Boston Highschool this month. She has received a scholarship from Texas A&M Texarkana University and has earned direct admission into their honors program. Kiki is the daughter of Jennifer & Bryan Cox, and granddaughter of Sue Edzards. Thomas Gardner, who graduates from Genoa High School this month. Thomas is the son of Shawn Gardner, and grandson of Ken & Debra Gardner. Eliana Martinez, who graduates from Genoa High School this month. Eliana is the daughter of Jorge & Robyn Martinez and the granddaughter of Linda Thomas. Nicole Plattner, who graduates from Premier High School this month. She plans on attending cosmetology school. Nichole is the daughter of Paula Plattner and granddaughter of Herman Plattner. Dane Sundbye, (not pictured) who graduates from the University of Arkansas this month with a Bachelor degree in psychology. Dane is the daughter of Scott & Lisa Sundbye, and the granddaughter of Mischa Brown.

Texarkana College held their 2024 Spring Fling on April 23rd. There was free food, free t-shirts, a bounce house and dunking booth. Pastor Scott Sundbye, Gayla Fowler and Vickie Smith manned a booth for FLC. Students and other attendees were given information on our church, candy and a popup phone grip wallet with the LCMS cross and FLC on it.

Each year we take all of the children's names and put them on a valentine tree, where adult members select one or more, not knowing until they have selected one, who it is. On February 18th everyone enjoyed breakfast in the fellowship hall where the adults met their child(ren) and gave them a gift and got to know them better. The adults are encouraged to keep the child(ren) in their prayers and continue to get to know them better throughout the year.

2023 ladies retreat
Ten amazing Lutheran women were part of FLC’s First Annual Women's Retreat. We started Friday, August 18, for a two-hour car ride to Lake Hamilton, in Hot Springs AR. Drivers were Karen Bradshaw and Nancy Lanier. Other attendants were Clara Ayers, Lisa Sundbye, Pam Wood, Sue Richter, Sheila Oestmann, Kay Lever, Mandy Moore, and Joyce Parry-Sartin. We spent our weekend of fellowship at a beautiful lake home overlooking a view of the lake and pool. Weekend activities included food, fellowship, pool time, crafts, games, and a movie.

In 2023 we had 4 graduates, two from high school and two from college. James Stout and Blake Sundbye bot graduated from Pleasant Grove High School. Mallory Hackworth received her Associate Degree from Southern Arkansas University, and Karson McDonald (not shown) graduated from the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville.

Each month we feed the people living at Randy Sams Homeless Shelter. We have 4 great chefs and a small dedicated group of volunteers.

Each year the Lutheran churches in our circuit, who have Lutheran Women's Missionary League's, have a Spring and Fall rally. This was our year to host the Spring Rally. The theme was "Ready, Set, Grow in Your Community."

Each year we try to make the beginning of the new school year fun, so we got a water slide.
2022 national youth gathering
Every 3 years our synod, the Lutheran Church - Missouri Synod (LCMS) holds a national youth gathering. This year it was held in Houston. Seven of our youth, plus Pastor Sundbye and Jennifer Holmes as chaperones, attended.

In July eight of our younger kids went to Camp Lone Star in LaGrange, TX for a week of fun in the sun.

This year's VBS theme was Camp Luther. Four four nights in July the children and volunteers sat around an indoor campfire (amazingly life like with little lights) and heard stories about Martin Luther, made crafts, ate snacks and learned more about the Lutheran faith. The final night they got to meet Martin Luther (aka Wayne Cranfill). He told them his story, which entralled them all. One little one asked if he was really Martin Luther. They had a contest between the girls and boys, to see which group could bring the most canned goods to be given to local shelters. The boys won!

Guatelama mission trip 2021
From July 17 through the 25th Clara Ayres along with Blake, Jake and Scott Sundbye went on a mission trip to the region around Lake Atitlan in Guatemala. The trip was put together by Education and More whose sole purpose is to help families in Guatemala. Our group joined eleven others helping with work projects, VBS and learning about the culture and people of the area. Our group plans to have a presentation showing pictures of the trip during Sunday school in the near future. It was a wonderful trip.

The them for VBS this year was Rainforest Explorers. The decorations were so good, you'd think you were in a real rainforest.
camp first 2021
Camp First was a spiritual, servant, educational and fun opportunity for our middle and high school youth. We had just over twenty youth meet during the last three Wednesdays in June (16th, 23rd, 30th) from 8:00 in the morning to 8:00 in the evening. Each Wednesday began with Bible study and concluded with the kids helping with VBS from 5:00 p.m. till 8:00 p.m.

Sunday, April 18 following the worship service we had our church picnic and Manliest Pie contest. Burgers and hotdogs were provided with members bringing side dishs and beverages. There was a corn hole competition as well.

Sarah Vasquez has been a faithful visitor with her friend Nikki Plattner. After prayerful consideration she asked to be baptized and confirmed. Sunday, June 28th was a big day for Sarah. During the service she was first baptized then confirmed. Welcome and God's blessings Sarah!
2020 Confirmation
Sunday, June 28th five young adults confirmed their faith in our Savior and were confirmed into the Lutheran Church. Each explained their faith and understanding of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Congratulations and God's blessings to kiki Cox, Thomas Gardner, Eliana Martinez, Nikki Plattner and Sarah Vasquez!
Honoring our 2020 High school graduates
Congratulations to our graduates: Karson McDonald, graduating from Texas High Cum Laude, and from Texarkana College with an Associate Degree in General Studies. Karson will attend Arkansas University, Fayetteville in the Fall; Matthew Plattner, graduating from Hooks High. Matthew will be attending Texarkana College in the Fall; Dane Sundbye, graduating from Texas High Cum Laude. Dane will attend Texarkana College in the Fall.

2020 MUDBUGS HOCKEY GAME
On February 8th 2020 15 adults and 2 children attended a Mudbug Hockey game at the Hirsch Coliseum-George's Pond in Shreveport, LA. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed watching the Mudbugs win against Springfield Jr. Blues (Springfield, Illinois)!
100th Anniversary Celebration
On Sunday, January 19th, 2020 we celebrated 100 years of God's grace with a special afternoon service and a dinner following at the Texarkana Texas Convention Center.
